Trundle Beds and Daybeds for 2 Kids

A trundle bed or daybed is useful when you need to accommodate more than one child for sleep in one room. Two children (usually siblings or friends) will enjoy using a trundle bed or daybed. Both beds save space in a small room.

The difference between these types of beds is barely noticeable to the average customer, but furniture manufacturers know the difference:

Trundle beds are usually more affordable than daybeds due to their simpler construction. The beds in trundle beds are at two heights. Therefore, the upper bed is usually also protected by a bed guard. The lower bed (trundle bed) is without a guard. From a safety standpoint, sleeping on a trundle bed is more suitable for children who can already sleep without a guard (usually from the age of 9). However, some trundle beds are so low that children can sleep on them from as young as 2 years old. The final decision on how to use the beds on a trundle bed is up to the parents' judgment.

The lower bed (trundle bed) slides out on wheels. In most cases, the lower bed is smaller than the upper bed so that the lower bed can be slid under the upper bed without overhang. If not stated otherwise in the product description, the size of the lower mattress in the trundle bed is atypical, and therefore the manufacturer usually supplies mattresses for trundle beds in a set.

A daybed, unlike a trundle bed, contains 2 full-fledged beds and the bed unfolding mechanism is usually technically designed so that the sleeping people sleep on the same level when the bed is unfolded. An example are beds with backs, where this type of bed allows for sleeping on the same level. The size of the mattresses for a daybed with a back is often the same. Daybeds (such as HERMES, HELIOS) do not usually have any guards at the entrance to the bed, and therefore they can definitely be recommended for teenagers (from 9 years old) or adults.
